The Funky Bee

My own personal blah, blah, blah...

Friday, March 30, 2007

Blah, blah, blah...it's Friday and for that I am grateful. Otherwise, not much going on. Looking forward to a low key weekend, I hope. I have to get up ass early tomorrow for puppy training. I hope this dog appreciates this. Actually, I just hope it starts working then it will make getting up at the crack for 8 Saturday's in a row worth it for me.

The weather is supposed to be nice this weekend. Spring has finally come here in DC and the cherry blossoms are in full bloom to prove it. I can't wait to get out and enjoy the mild temps.

Well, that's all I got. I hope everyone has a great weekend!

LOST?

Okay, if you didn't watch last night's LOST episode and you don't want me to ruin it then stop reading here...I'll give you a minute....

Okay. So, last night's LOST pretty much sucked ass! WTF? I hate Nikki and Paulo and I can't believe they wasted a WHOLE episode on them. I had to rewind and watch the first 5 min's two times to figure out if I was watching the right show. When I saw Billy Dee Williams I thought I was watching an old Colt 45 commercial or it was a spoof on Jimmy Kimmel or something...

This episode can be summed up by Sawyer..."And WHO ARE YOU ANYWAY?"

The fact that the two of them were supposedly doing all this "exploring" on their own, found another plane, a hatch, etc, etc, and told no one is LAME but at least the writers got the hint that no one liked them and got rid of them. Did they need to dedicate a whole episode to them? NO!!! I would have preferred a whole episode dedicated to Vincent the dog, it would have been a hell of a lot more interesting.

I'm glad that what's her face opened her eyes. I hope being buried alive with her miserable slut diamonds sucks as much as their "life" on the show.

Can you tell I'm fired up? What can I say? I love my LOST, but last night's ep "lost" me...

drinky poo

So I bought these drinks today because well, they were recommended, they were on sale and apparently I am a product whore. AND the whole talk about burning calories didn't hurt either. Oh, although they "recommend" drinking 3 cans a day. Yeah, that's not going to happen. Water is a LOT cheaper.

Anyway, they are actually really yummy. I might be addicted. I've only tried the Green Tea flavor so far but it's good. I would compare it, oddly enough since it's made by Coke/Nestle co., to the flavor of Nestea, it's a little like that but fizzy. And, here's the crazy part...it has 0 fat, 0 carbs and 5 calories. Fuck, it probably causes cancer. Anything that seems too good to be true, well...you know the rest.

Oh well, try it if you dare!

Oh My God! I have never had such problems with allergies as I'm having now. My nose won't stop running, my eyes won't stop watering, my throat and the roof of my mouth itch, I am sneezing like a fool! I finally took some medicine today and I am still not feeling that great. This sucks! BUT I almost can't complain because it's 80 degrees out today and that makes me very, very happy!

Last night the pup peed on the living room floor, thankfully missing the carpet, right in front of us...right after I told hubby to take her out. I was so angry and frustrated that I almost started crying. I just have to laugh at myself...how pathetic. But I was just so over it. I guess we better start jumping on it when she whines and basically TELLS us that she needs to go out. It's really no one's fault but our own. We're learning...

My cousin, who I grew up with and is like my brother, and his fiance had a baby at 3 o'clock this morning. A little boy. I plan to go see him after work today. I'm so excited!

That's all I got. I hope you all are having a good day.

It's Monday!

BOOOO!

Had a very doggie filled weekend. Our world has changed drastically, it's weird. We did a lot of things with the pooch this weekend, including starting puppy training. There was a last minute opening at the Dog Training Club so I got in. The really sad, depressing, awful part is that the class is at 7:30am on Saturday mornings. The good thing is it's over early and I still have the rest of the day ahead of me. But damn, getting up early on Saturday after doing it all week sucks!

I have started on my long awaited project. My "poo" bags from my web site. I guess now I have a little more motivation to make them. I have had them in the works for the last 2 years and now I need to get a move on. I cut 4 bags last night and plan to get at least another 4 cut before week's end. Then it's sewing time! So, if you have a dog/pet that you walk and might need a bag I'll update when I have some up on the site and you can check them out. I've decided on a new name. Originally they were going to be called a Poo Purse or a Poo Pouch but I've decided on POOch Pouch. I am currently looking into Copyright and Patent info. We'll see how it goes. So don't steal my name or my bag design or I may have to hunt you down and kick your arse.

Here's a picture of Nola from this weekend. Needless to say, we wore her out. We took her here and there, she met new doggie friends, she ran around and played. She was out like a light, on her back, paws in the air and didn't hear us giggling and taking pictures of her. She truly is like a baby!

It's Friday!

YAYYY!!

OMG! Our puppy is a bitch...in more ways than the obvious.

Seriously, she's scared of people, she's scared of her grandparents (which went over really well with my v. sensitive MIL - "why doesn't she like me?"), she's scared of dogs, she's scared of cats, she's scared to go down to our basement (which I can't totally blame her for), she's scared of Petsmart, she's scared of her own shadow, she's scared of just about anything except me and hubby and I think even we scare her sometimes.

I am praying that she's just timid because the poor thing has been in about 4 different homes in the last month and she's just getting used to her surroundings. I'm really hoping it's just a puppy thing and she'll grow out of it. We're planning to do obedience training hoping that it will help get her socialized and out of those little puppy habits and maybe she'll listen better.

For all of you dog owners, is this normal? Will she grow out of it? Will obedience training help? I can't have a sissy dog. I won't let it happen...

I am EXHAUSTED! As good as this puppy is and as absolutely lucky we are that she was already semi well behaved this is really hard work and the lack of sleep and exertion of energy is really killing me. You know it's bad when you're falling asleep driving to work! OR when you're looking forward to spending time at work to get a little bit of a break.

The Sweet One had a bachelor party this past weekend so I basically have been with this puppy alone all weekend then he played cards last night so that is less time that he's been home, not to mention that I'm the one that comes home during the day to take her out and play with her and pee and poop her. It's really taking it's toll. Last night I was just done. But she's so good and she's so sweet and she's so cute that it makes it all worth it.

Although, at bed time last night she cried and barked in her crate louder and longer than she has to date. It was heartbreaking. It went on for what seemed to be hours and what in actuality was probably about 10 minutes. She actually quieted down at one point and we thought we were in the clear until she started up again for another 5 minutes or so. The hubby was inches away from getting out of bed and taking her out of the crate but I begged him not to and thankfully he listened. She finally quieted down and crashed out. What the hell are we going to do when/if we have kids?

We had Nola's first vet visit yesterday. She did very well. She was definitely scared and shaky but we made it through after only one attempt at her own life as she hurled herself off the exam table. She currently weighs 28 pounds and has an ear infection. 20 minutes and $120 later we're on our way to recovery with some ear drops that she just adores and an "ear wash" that I can tell she'll love even more than the drops. I mean, who the hell likes shit put in their ears? The poor dear. It's really fun when you put it in and then she shakes like a banshee and then you're wearing it!

Anyway, I speak of the pain but really Nola is a joy! We are just loving having her and I am looking forward to the day when she has control over her bowels and gets onto our sleep schedule as opposed to us being on hers. It's coming, I know it is...

It's A Girl!

Well...we've been waiting alllllll week to hear if our "adoption" would go through and it did! and we are now proud parents of a 4 month old black lab. It's our first baby and her name is Nola! Isn't she beautiful? We just picked her up this morning. Boy we are going to spoil her rotten...get ready for lots and lots of pictures!

Say hello to Nola...

Tuesday, March 13, 2007

Well, this picture kind of sums up the weekend. Okay, not really but between 4 people we ate about 12 pounds of crawfish in two days...We only stopped because we had to.

Thursday was fun. We got to hang with everyone that was getting into town that night. Friday was gorgeous, after the 8:30am parade. The weather was just perfect and the Sweet One and I walked around the city for most of the day. One of our best friends got in later in the afternoon and we met up and started the food fest. We had too many pitchers of Abita to count, raw and char grilled oysters and of course, a ton of craw fish!

That evening there was a party for all of the out of town guests and family. In true N'awlins fashion there was a great band playing and wonderful crawfish etouffe and red beans and rice. And plenty of booze to keep the guests happy.

After the party we all headed out to continue drinking and hanging out. This is when my days get a little blurred together but I'm told that I had the brilliant idea to go to a strip club. Yikes! I think it was about 4am at this point and believe me, you could tell by the quality of the dancers. It was kind of embarrassing but I did feel boobies. I'm not necessarily proud of this but it was quite funny.

Saturday was another perfect day. We walked around and shopped and then went back to eating. We were supposed to be at the church for a 3:30pm ceremony but were still drinking beer and eating crawfish at 2:45! Needless to say I couldn't shower and ended up putting my make up on in the taxi on the way to the church. I looked wonderful...Oy! The pictures of me are so horrid. I should have touched up at some point but I was merely hanging on with each drink I had.

The wedding was amazing. The weather was perfect. The Bride looked stunning. The band was one of the best I've heard and we partied the night away. And continued at a bar with the whole wedding party in tow the rest of the evening. This was the straw people...

Sunday it was difficult to get out of bed. I don't know what time check out was at the hotel but I'm certain we missed it. I would still be laying in that bed right now if we didn't have a 4pm plane to catch!

Yesterday was very difficult to function at work. I needed a plate of crawfish, a beer and a bed to get through the day.

I truly love New Orleans, and when I say that and describe our antics over the weekend I don't only mean the silly things like the French Quarter and partying until the wee hours of the morning. The city is truly beautiful. I love uptown and Metarie and lots of other things about the city as well. The art work and the architecture inspire me and every time we have to leave I want to cry because I'd much rather stay. AND, as much as the quarter is "back on it's feet" and looks as though it was never touched, that city still needs our help. Go there. Spend money there. Remember that some people are still in need and some are still displaced...

Only In New Orleans

Well, it's 9:35 am and I'm on vacation, drank last night and should still be asleep, but I'm not and honestly I can't believe I'm blogging...

We were supposed to leave around 7pm last night and get here close to 9pm. We ended up sitting on our airplane waiting for fuel for over an hour and a half and I was pissed and hungry. But, I weaseled two free drinks out of it. Gay flight attendants love me! Anyway, it was probably a blessing in disguise because we drank too much as it is and if we had gotten here any earlier it just would have been messy. I knew I should have had a little chat with my liver before we came...Anyway, we checked into our hotel once here, changed our shoes and off to Bourbon to meet up with our friends. We hung out until 3am when I said, "holy shit, it's 3am" then we came back and crashed.

This morning...I'm having a dream. I hear music in my dream. "R-E-S-P-E-C-T find out what it means to me...." What a weird dream I'm having. It's fading...next song, louder this time...Run Around Sue. BOOM! I'm awake. It sounds like the streets are filled with tons and tons of people and I look at the clock and it's 8:50AM!!!! What the hell? There is a parade or some kind of festival going on outside my window, on a Friday at 8:50AM. The music by now is blaring. I know they have parties and parades for just about anything and everything down here but what was this one for? It's the "Woo Hoo it's Friday" Parade, let's go.

I tried my hardest to go back to sleep. I'm on vacation for Christ's sake but it wasn't happening. So, I took a shower and wouldn't you know it, when I got out the hubby is fast asleep and it seems that our lovely little "parade" or whatever it was, is gone. And that my friends is why I am currently stealing internet access from "Flannagan's Pub" and writing to you.

I hope Everyone is having a wonderful Friday. I hope you woke up to much quieter music than I did and I hope you all have a fabulous weekend.

Heading to the Big Easy...pray for my liver's safe return.

Do you think it's inappropriate to try for beads at the wedding?

Have a good weekend everyone!

It's snowing here right now. Yes...SNOWING. I am really looking forward to my trip and some warmer weather. And as sad as it sounds, I can't wait to EAT in New Orleans. I love all the little divey, local joints. And, I'll have to admit that I also can't wait to eat at Acme Oyster House. This is one establishments that is totally touristy but at the same time is still loved by locals and their food still totally rocks. I am ready for a po'boy and a couple pounds of craw fish burning my lips off and the only thing that puts the fire out is an ice cold Abita! YUM. Somehow not being able to eat meat on Friday doesn't seem like such a problem anymore.

Something I don't understand is why people frequent the places like Bubba Gump's? I wonder if that gnarly place is still in the French Quarter. Who ever allowed that in the first place? I guess it's a good money maker. All the mid westerners that come in to NoLa and are like WOW a real life Bubba Gumps! I mean, would you even trust eating food there? Do they sell food there? My impression of food you might get there would be a soggy shrimp salad with warm old mayonnaise and soggy shredded lettuce. And an Iced tea that probably has mold spores growing in it. Ewww. I'm grossing myself out now...

I act like there isn't a TON of places to eat in D.C. We have so many restaurants here, so many very good restaurants, but there's nothing like eating in the true south. The only person I've ever known to actually complain about the restaurant selection in D.C. is Beck. But he's a vegan and I don't trust anyone that doesn't eat bacon.

Well, like I said, it's cold and it's snowing OH and I ate two donuts this morning. Life is good.

Tuesday, March 06, 2007

It is absolutely freezing out today. We got tricked into thinking that Spring was on it's way last week but not so much anymore. It's windy and cold and I'm freakin over it!

The hubby and I are leaving for New Orleans on Thursday and I can't wait! I know it won't be HOT there but it will be at least 35 degrees warmer than it is here so I'm happy. One of our very bestest friends is getting married in NoLa on Saturday and I have a feeling it's going to be a great party! I am a little nervous to see the city since we haven't been back since Katrina. For the last 9 years or so we have traveled to New Orleans at least twice a year so it's odd that we haven't been back. We have also had a ton of things going on like planning a wedding and taking a very expensive honey moon but now it's time to get back to a city that I categorize as one of our favorites.

Anyway, not much more going on here. Working and being cold! Hope everyone is having a great day!

The Weekend...

Lots of eating, drinking and movies this weekend...

Friday night a friend and I went to see Black Snake Moan. We went in with low to no expectations. I'm really glad because I ended up enjoying it. It's hard for me to recommend this movie though because I hate when people tell me that a movie is great, I go to see it and then it sucks. SO, if you see it, don't expect much and perhaps you'll enjoy it as much as I did. One thing is for sure, I will be promptly purchasing the soundtrack!

Saturday the Hubby and I went to his parents house for brunch. It was so freakin good. Saturday night about 15 of us got together for dinner because one of our favorite friends was visiting from Pittsburgh. As you might imagine it was rowdy, loud and tons of fun. We ended up out drinking until about 4am and I can honestly say I've seen my husband that intoxicated maybe once before in all of our time together. He was a mess and it was hilarious! Glad I was the driver that night...

Sunday afternoon my husband surprised me with, and I'm embarrassed as a self proclaimed foodie to admit this, our first trip out for dim sum. It was fabulous! Everything was so yummy and it was a lot of fun. It really pushes you to try things that you otherwise would not. The dishes were beautiful and the flavors were top notch! We will for sure be going back with all of our friends.

Later on Sunday we met my parents, sisters and a friend of ours to see Pan's Labyrinth and all I can say is that YOU MUST SEE THIS MOVIE. It deserved every award it won and then some. I was a little confused before we went in as to why it was rated R, but once we were into the film it was evident. So with that said, don't take your kids to see this movie. It may be steeped in fantasy and fairy tales but it is, without a doubt, an adult film.

I don't even know where to start with this movie. I don't think I have the words. I enjoyed everything about it. The acting was superb. The scenery was amazing. The characters, good and bad, were fantastic. It is just really worth seeing. This movie I highly, highly recommend.

After the movie we decided it was time to eat again because, well, it had been about 5 minutes since our last meal. We had an amazing Thai meal and I am honestly salivating thinking of the explosion of flavors and spices that we experienced. I have always loved Thai food but this meal was just one of the best I've had. From the lemon grass to the peanut sauces, the fresh basil and oddly, since I am not a huge curry fan, the yellow curry which I am now officially addicted to. I might have to eat that again this week. Oy, I should have given up food for lent.

So, really, all I did this weekend was eat and watch movies. I have to admit, it wasn't a bad way to spend a weekend. I hope all of you had a fabulous weekend as well and that I haven't completely bored you to tears reading about mine.

Yayy! It's Friday.

I think I am going to the movies tonight but I can't decide if we should see Terabithia, Black Snake Moan or Breach. All very different, all with the possibility of being really good or very bad. Who knows.

On Sunday the hubby and some friends and fam and I are going to see Pan's Labyrinth at the AFI Silver Theater. It's an amazing old theater that was restored and is now the American Film Institutes's main headquarters for the East Coast. It's awesome. And the fact that I may be seeing two movies in one weekend is a record. My husband doesn't really care for the movies, which sucks. Tonight I'm going with a friend though so it's not really a record for the hub.

Anyway, hope everyone has a great weekend!

Thursday, March 01, 2007

Well, I have been super busy with work, home, life this past week. And to be honest nothing exciting going on here...I mean, I don't even think I can make anything up unless you want to hear about how I took my car to get an oil change on Tuesday. See what I'm saying? My life is uneventful!

One of my very good friends is coming to town to party down this weekend so maybe I'll have some good stories next week. Probably not.

I've gone to the gym every day so far this week and I'm on track for tomorrow too. Rock on!

Hope everyone is having a great week!
