The Funky Bee

My own personal blah, blah, blah...

Tuesday, May 20, 2008

In addition to my standing places on earth that could be confused with hell, (the department of motor vehicles office, the social security office) I've added a new one...The waiting area in the hospital emergency room! YUCK!

So, I've decided that Lucy, as cute as she appears to be, has it out for me...

On Saturday afternoon, she and I were wrestling around on the living room floor, thankfully we had just come back from the wine festival so I was feeling little to no pain. Anyway, I feel a bit of a slice on my nose. Eh, no big deal. Then I kind of decide, yeah, that kind of hurt. Then I realize that my nose feels "wet". So, I go to touch the wetness and my fingers are covered in blood. NICE! I head to the bathroom to wash up and it just wouldn't stop bleeding. Finally, after continued towel placement in the nose, it stopped. I couldn't even tell where the cut was, which was odd, but whatever. All better!

Last night was Lucy's last "obedience" class. She was by far the worst dog in the class and this is no one's fault but ours. I will admit, we did not practice nearly enough with her. We didn't enforce a lot of what we were taught and it showed! She ended up jumping up on the instructor and cutting her which also angered her to the point of alerting me that Lucy was done for the evening, Whoops! I was kind of embarrassed but whatever.

So, towards the end of class, while all of the dogs were doing their last recall exercises, all of the dogs not participating were sitting in another ring just chilling, either waiting for our turn or hanging out after we were done. Well Lucy, as always, was extremely boisterous. She wanted to play with the other pups, but we're not allowed to do that. So, she finally kind of chilled out and sat next to me. I guess I must have let my guard down a little because when she decided to take off after another dog she basically took my hand/fingers that the leash was wrapped around with her!

To say I was in pain is an understatement, but I was so concerned with running after her that I couldn't pay attention to the hurt right away. I was kind of afraid to look down at my hand. Thankfully class was about over. I got Lucy's certificate then we hauled ass. When I got in the car I saw that my middle finger was bleeding from the nail. My ring finger was crooked, blue and swelling rapidly. It hurt like hell but I got my wedding rings off, probably right in time. I had a red "rope burn" across my hand which was also slowly turning blue and swelling. I wanted to kill this dog!

I drove home in tears because of course now I could feel the pain radiating from my fingers all the way down my forearm. I called my dad because he has a habit of breaking his fingers, and because the hubby is away, and my dad insisted he take me to the hospital...uuugghh! I mean really, what can they do about a broken finger?

Well, I'll tell you. They make you wait. People hack and breathe their germs all over you. They take x-rays. They make you wait. You ask for ice. They make you wait. They give you an ice pack. They make you wait. They tell you that it doesn't "appear" to be a fracture but that it's definitely a sprain and the tendons might be damaged. They tell you that they are going to put a splint on it. They make you wait...

We finally caught the eye of one of the nurses/doctors? and she came to put a wrist splint on me until I asked, "do I need a wrist splint for my finger?" Then she decided to read my chart and put a splint on my finger. I think it might be a good idea to go see my real doctor! The best part of it all...I left with a prescription for Percocet. And they wonder why Americans are addicted to prescription medications!

So, after a horrendous night's sleep, I have this lame thing on my hand, which I am kind of thankful for because my hand/finger/arm is killing me and if something touches it I will scream! There is still this little heartbeat pulsing in my finger. I love it.

What have we learned here today people? We've learned that Lucy is trying to kill me, I am a frail little wimp and if you hurt your finger, you get to wear a lame splint! Have a lovely day All!!

Well, we got one non-rainy day yesterday and then...Ta Da! It's raining again today. Thankfully it's not cold out, so that's one positive.

I was behind the biggest loser the whole way into work this morning. It was one of those people that comes to a complete stop at every stop sign and waits there for a full 3 or 4 seconds before going again. I know it's important to stop at stop signs but when there is no one else around except you and the car behind you, I think it's safe to say that you can move along fairly rapidly! I wanted to get out of my car and knife every one of the damn tires on that minivan but I didn't...I now know that there are 14 stop signs on my route in to work. It never seemed like that many until today!

We have a 30th Birthday party to go to tonight. Lots of family and friends so it should be lots of fun. Tomorrow, if it's not raining, we are supposed to go to an outdoor wine festival in our area. Nothing like a good wine tasting buzz! And Sunday my hubby goes away for a business trip and I am not happy about it, but maybe I'll get some things taken care of that I keep putting off while he's away.

I hope it's sunny where you all are and I hope you all have a perfectly lovely weekend!

Happy 3rd Anniversary HNT!!!!!
(can you spot me?)

Os, you're the man, can't believe it's been going strong this long! Keep up the good work. I'll try to jump back in now and then and join the fun...

Rain, Rain Go Away!

Seriously...it's never going to stop raining here. NEVER! It was so nice some time last week, I can't remember when, but I know it was nice at some point. Isn't it weird how when it rains for more than a day, it feels like it will never end but you can never get enough of warm, sunny days? I mean, I don't think I've ever said, "Uugghhh, I wish this stretch of 8 straight warm, sunny days would stop already, I'm so sick of it".

I'm thinking of going home and doing laps in my basement tonight. And I think I overheard Lucy talking about a mud wrestling competition with the deer that were out back earlier today. Even some schools, not in our immediate area, but close enough, in Maryland and Virginia were delayed and closed going in today due to flooding. That's how lovely it is out. It also went from being warm and spring like last week to a whopping 49 degrees today. MISERABLE.

Getting to work was super fun. Trees down, roads closed, detours, traffic, morons that don't quite know how to function in rain...It would have been more frustrating, but I refused to get worked up about it. I just took my time and rolled with it. Now, if this hour long ride to work continues, we may have a problem and a potential melt down. We'll see...

So this weekend we went to a neighborhood party. Someone in our hood started a "cooking club" so they get together every month, there is a theme and everyone brings something that goes along with that theme to the house of that months' hosts. I guess it really should have been called an "eating club". They've been getting together for a few months now but this was our first time attending. The theme was "Mexican", much to the hubby's delight. The hosts generously provided fajita's and margaritas for everyone. We brought mini shrimp taco's and a pitcher of raspberry-lemonade margaritas. I hate to toot my own horn but our dish was the best one there. I overheard many people saying how yummy they were, and I was asked numerous times for the recipe...They were spicy as hell and deeelish. I basically made a salsa, put some in the little Scoops chips, then topped each one with a spicy shrimp! Bite sized taco's.

It was fun to meet some of our neighbors, some of which live on our street and we didn't even know...The best part was leaving so we could talk about everyone! The chick who organized this whole thing, or as I like to call her, the Cooking Club Nazi, was a total biatch. For being the "organizer" she was so unwelcoming. She made no acknowledgement of us when we got there and then when we introduced ourselves she seemed almost pained to have a convo with us. She also tried to take her beer home with her (LAME) I think she brought a 6 pack, maybe! She was the kind of woman who constantly had this look on her face like she smelled something bad (she was actually one of two women with this problem at the party). Awesome! I know our dish was good because I overheard cooking club nazi say, the shrimp dish ROCKED, before she knew that we made it. HA!

Anyway, other than the nazi, the hosts of the party were super nice, as was most everyone else, except for the weirdo's that we had fun talking about later. And then wondering what they were saying about us and how weird we were...

Mother's day was good except for the fact that I think I ate constantly for like 16 hours straight. I'm not eating all week...

I hope all of you Mom's out there had a great Mother's Day, and those of you lucky enough to not be mom's, like me, had a wonderful weekend, with no rain!

Happy Freakin' Monday!

So, I mentioned before that my office moved locations. And, I think all of the women I know would agree with the whole bathroom etiquette thing - you know, if you walk into a multiple stall bathroom and there is one person in a stall, you generally don't go into the very next unoccupied stall, you skip one or two...

Well, the bathrooms in this place were obviously A.) designed by men, and B.) they appear to have been mentally challenged men. Our bathroom floors are black marble. SHINY BLACK MARBLE! There might as well be a mirror on the floor!!! It is so unbelievably stupid I can not even explain.

So, this brings a new aspect into the whole bathroom etiquette thing. If I walk in, or any other logical human being for that matter, and see that someone is in a stall, the LAST thing I would do is go into the very next stall, as to not make them or myself uncomfortable while watching each other do our business. As a matter of fact, I've been faced with this predicament quite a few times since moving here a week ago and have managed to work it out.

Well today, and you know where I'm going with this, I am happily urinating in my very own personal stall, I am also the only person in the bathroom, and in walks another future defecator. I'm peeing, she's clickety clacking on the tiles and BOOM! She walks right into the stall next to me! I threw my hands up and it took everything I could not to literally ask her WHY she would pick that stall. I'm certain she saw my reaction. I finished my business while diligently looking to the sky so I wouldn't have to see her nasty bits and left the stall, head shaking...

I literally wanted to send out an office-wide email but thought better of it. I mean, I have been known to overreact to certain things, yes, I know, surprising, but this one just boggles my mind. Who in the universe is that clueless. God, I hate people...GGGrrrrr!!

We had a great weekend. The weather was just short of perfect!

On Friday night we went out with some friends to celebrate one of their birthdays. When we got to the venue the hubby's aunt, uncle, cousins and baby were there waiting to see us. It was a nice surprise.

Saturday we had to get up early to head to my niece's First Communion. That was probably the most annoying part of our weekend. My bro and SIL already live pretty far away from us but we hit all kinds of construction traffic, etc so it took us over 2 hours to get there. The Hubby vowed to never go up there again. That was a fun ride, let me tell you. Actually, we were so hungry and delirious by the time we got there it was almost humorous...

Saturday evening we had a fund raiser to go to. It was to support a friend of ours' kids school. It was a wine and food tasting and silent auction and it was held on the roof top terrace of a well known D.C. law firm. The weather was amazing and the view was so great. It felt like you could reach out and touch the capitol! Unfortunately my picture does it no justice.

The food left a little to be desired, which kind of sucks, but whatever. I took a picture of this guy plating his dishes because it was so "food network challenge" and it looked to pretty and appealing. There was a line of people waiting to try this dish. Unfortunately, it was not good! HA!! After all that showmanship - he even threw salt over his shoulder, for effect no doubt, and yeah...not so good.

Sunday we spent the whole day outside. We had some friends and fam over and picked some yummy crabs and drank beer and margaritas in the afternoon sun. The pooch just gallivanted through the yard all day. Digging holes, chasing squirrels and running around with branch sized sticks. It was great. We were all exhausted by the end of the day.

Today came WAAAAAAAYY to quickly! I am so over being at work today. Who invented work anyway? So dumb...

Anyway, I hope you all had a great weekend too!

Friday, May 02, 2008

Oh my god thank you, thank you, thank you for making today FRIDAY!

I have been sick all week and like an idiot I've been coming to work. I spent the majority of yesterday sleeping on my couch, drinking orange juice and eating soup. I think that did the trick because I feel A LOT better today. Being sick is no fun.

Now I'm ready to get the weekend started, I think I heard that alcohol is best for a cold. So, I plan to drink myself healthy tonight!

We have a food tasting/fund raiser to go to tomorrow night that I'm looking forward to. I hope it's as delicious as I expect it to be. Other than that, the plans are minimal, which is awesome!

Happy Weekend Everyone!!!
