The Funky Bee

My own personal blah, blah, blah...

Tuesday, August 26, 2008

So I got home on Saturday and my Dad was kind enough to pick me up from the airport with the pooch in the car! She gave me tons of licks and her tail almost shattered the car window. It made me so happy!

Then I got home. And I realized that it's going to be just me and the pooch for the next two weeks and it made me sad. The damn tomato and basil plants look like they've been crying they're so droopy. I guess it decided not to rain one drop since we left and why I would think to ask someone to water our plants is a mystery to me. That would have been way to adult of me to do however...

We miss TSO. I know it will be fine and don't get me wrong, as much as he'll be missed, I am no fool. I do appreciate having time to myself and I feel like we manage to accommodate that on a regular basis when the hubby is home. There is a difference in knowing that he isn't home and won't be home for the next two weeks and there's nothing we can do about it.

We are trying to keep super busy and remember that every day apart is one day closer to when he comes home. Then we can get sick of each other and wish we could be apart. KIDDING!!! As sappy as this is going to sound, we don't generally feel that way when we're together. Because we're perfect, remember?

I have been a busy little bee since getting back, you like that don't you? I had a party to go to Saturday night when I got home, I had a shite load of laundry and a house to clean on Sunday. Monday was my sister and my MIL's birthday so that was a cluster. Tonight I'm hosting book club at my house. I decided the food theme would be Thai so I made yellow curry chicken with potatoes, a cold/spicy cucumber salad and will be making some (frozen from Trader Joe's) vegetable samosas and spring rolls when I get home for the grub portion of the "meeting". It's making my mouth water now. I can't wait.

Tomorrow night we are taking two girlfriend's out to dinner to celebrate their pregnancy, although, I don't know how much you can "celebrate" when you're knocked up, if you know what I mean. But hey, if they want to watch me knock back a few it's fine by me!

Thursday night I am either going to a professional football game or I'm playing in my own softball game. Haven't decided yet. And as busy as I'll be keeping myself all week...the long weekend looms and is making me sad. I guess I'll pass the time by walking the pooch and perhaps doing some other girlie things for ME! Mani - Pedi here I come!

I decided to go home for lunch today because ummm, I'm a slacker, and as I am driving home I hear this clickity clacking and my whole car is doing this little shimmy shake. My first thought was, "oh shit!" but I continued to drive home and figure it out. When i got there I examined my tire to find the biggest freakin nail/bolt whatever you want to call it, sticking into my tire! I swear it's the size of Rhode Island. Check it out:

teeny weeny

How I didn't feel it when I ran over this is beyond me. Unless someone decided to come put it in my tire when I was not in it. Otherwise I have no clue. Maybe I was rocking out in the car and just missed it, who knows?

Anyway, that will be keeping me busy tomorrow morning as I sit and wait for the tire guys to either plug it or come to me and say, sorry babe, you're out of luck and need a new tire, which, I know will be what happens but whatever!

Anyway, I hope that each and every one of you is having a blessed day. Peace out!

pooch-withdrawal

When we got to the daily wine reception in our hotel lobby the other day we were pleasantly greeted by a pooch adoption. They had these two 8 week old Chihuahua mix pups and a kitty that needed homes. And believe me, if this was my home they would have been sleeping in my bed that night! It did wonders for my pooch withdrawal. We played on the floor with these little angels the whole time. I didn't even mind the nips from their dagger teeth, one which even put a hole in the nail polish on one of my fingers - those things are sharp! They were so freakin cute.

Last night we went to see The Black Keys and My Morning Jacket at the Red Rocks Amphitheater. Other than the fact that the altitude is truly and noticeably in effect up there, it was awesome. We had to walk about a half a mile to get up to the amphitheater but once up there it was pretty freakin cool. I thought perhaps I was just the lazy ass that couldn't get all the way up without stopping every few yards or so until I realized even the little whipper snappers were having a hard time. Then I felt a little better about myself. We got some good shots:

My husband considers me part hippie but man, I've never seen so many hippie dippy doo's in all of my life. It was hilarious. We even left with a new joke...so hippilicious: "What did the baby cookie say to the mama cookie when it was sick?" - "Mommy, I feel crumby!" Oh yeah, hippie humor at it's best. Thanks silly hippie, thanks.

Anyway, I leave tomorrow and I'm so sad about it. I will be leaving the hubby for another two weeks. At least I get to be with the pooch when I get home, which is more than poor TSO will have. He has to be stuck with his stoopid co-workers. Oh well! Much more to anticipate, right?

That's all for me. Hope everyone is doing well. Hell, it's Friday, you should be!!

Well, I'm still away but I had some down time today and decided to check up on all of you and do a little update.

I started my trip with one of my best friends in Venice Beach, California. Holy crap we had a great time. We laid on the beach, we drank and ate too much, you know, all the normal stuff! I've been to Venice beach before but for some reason this trip was more enjoyable. I guess having a local with you helps. One of the best parts was the fact that we parked the car when we got home from the airport and didn't drive it again until we went back.

We rode bikes everywhere. I'm talking to happy hour, to go shopping, to dinner and yes, even out to the bars at night. It was awesome. I wish I could do that at home. We did some shopping and I even saw a "celebrity" while walking down main street in Santa Monica. For all of you ex-Melrose Place fans, like myself, I saw Rob Estes ! And damn, he's pretty hot in person. His eyes are amazing. Here is a pic for those of you unsure of who I speak:

We did a lot in L.A. but I won't bore you. Instead, here are some pic's:

Now I'm in Denver. Hmmm, what can I say about Denver? First and foremost I am with the hubby and that is the best thing about this place. The thing that is very disturbing to me about Denver is that it's very white. I want to know where they're hiding all the minorities. I come from a city nicknamed "Chocolate City" so being in such a "white city" is kind of freaking me out. And one last negative before I get to the good parts, this city will never be considered a fashion epicenter. If I see another white man with a tight, tucked in shirt or another person with stripes and flannel on I'm going to throw up. I know they have stores here, I even saw a Betsy Johnson boutique last night, so why isn't anyone shopping there? If anyone wants to start a makeover show, this is the place to do it! You would never run out of subjects that is fo shiz!

Now, the good stuff. So far they seem to have some decent shopping (that apparently only tourists take advantage of) and some very yummy food! Last night we went to the Cherry Cricket for burgers and holy crap were they good! I had a burger with herbed cream cheese, grilled onions and bacon on it! YUM. Afterward we went to a champagne bar. Anyone that knows me knows that I love my bubbly! It was called Corridor 44. That was fun too. Our hotel is awesome. They have a beer/wine happy hour every day in the lobby with hoer's de overes and a complimentary chair massage from one of the therapists from their Aveda spa. I mean, you can't beat that! I've done a little shopping so far and although I'm being lazy and still haven't gotten out yet today, I plan to! The weather has been PERFECT and that alone is a great thing! Here are some Denver pic's:

Anyway, I am going through severe pooch withdrawal but I have to tell you, I think one of the best decisions we made was hiring these house/dog sitters. They are awesome. They have even been sending us daily email updates on the status of the dog. That is very comforting and as sad as I'll be when I leave the hubby to go back home, I am really looking forward to seeing that little bitch.

Okay, that's all for now. Hope everyone is well. I am going to check up on you all now!

It was a very busy weekend! On Friday I went to meet a friend of mine so that he could meet a pooch that my aunt is fostering. We're hoping he will want to adopt this furry little monster. Who wouldn't want this cute little thing:

On Friday night my old colleagues and I took our old boss out because he will be moving across the country later this month for a new job. It was bitter sweet but it was a fun night! We went out for crabs then we drank...and drank...and drank! It was a ton of fun and we ended the night with a "one last shot" of jack daniels. Yeah, it was that kind of night!

Saturday was plagued with the delayed hangover and then the party started all over again as we tailgated for the Redskins pre-season game against the Buffalo Bills. After an ugly start we ended up winning the game. It was a beautiful evening and we had so much fun.

On Sunday I had a brunch with the ladies in my family. It was a lot of fun but I was exhausted from the weekend and I was glad it was over early.

I'm getting really excited about my trip and I know the pooch will be in good hands. I am not worried about her in the least. As a matter of fact, I have a feeling she is going to have a great time with her sitters while we're away.

I'm going to L.A. on Thursday to see one of my bestest friends and tear up the town a little. A few days later I fly out to meet the hubby in Denver. I've never been there before and I'm excited to check out a fun, new city! I booked a hotel room at the Hotel Monaco and from what I hear, and from what the web site looks like, it's going to be awesome!! We've also planned to go see a concert at the Red Rocks Amphitheater. If you scroll over the seating chart you get a shot of what the view is over the mountains. It looks amazing! I can't wait to be sitting there, taking in a great show and a beautiful sun set all at the same time. And of course sitting next to my sweet man!

Anyway, now I'm trying to get all of the last minute things taken care of at work before I hit the road. I hope everyone had a great weekend and is having a great Tuesday. If I'm unable to post again before I go away I will leave you with a picture of the cutest pooch on earth...LUCY!

So last night our pooch met her soon to be caretakers for the week when we're away. She immediately took to them. She played, she licked, she seemed very happy. They were very friendly and seemed to like our monster a lot. And, as the hubby put it, we can do nothing at this point but trust that they'll take care of her the way they say they will.

They are definitely dog lovers. I mean, I don't know why you'd do this type of work if you weren't, but it was evident that they were. They came in and got right down on the floor with our pooch to play. They let her lick them in the face and hands and all in all it was just a good experience.

Now I'm starting to feel depressed that we're leaving her. How ridiculous is that? I know I'm being silly. She's just a dog and she'll be just fine, and so will we, but I am a sap that way I guess! She is my furry baby you know!

Last night we went out for some awesome Italian food at this little local place that we love. I had the ravioli in a rose sauce! It was so good and someone just made something in my office that smells like Italian and I am dreaming about my dinner from last night now! I think I better go eat something!

Anyway, that's about all I have to say about that...hope y'all are having a great day!

Okay, you know what really burns my ass these days (no smart comments please)...

the fact that NO ONE does their fucking job with a smile on their faces anymore. I mean, seriously. Why is it that no matter where I go or who I deal with at these places, they all act like they are doing you a favor by coming to work and getting a pay check every week. You know what? I don't like getting up early and getting ready and leaving my cozy home and my awesome pooch to come sit in a fucking cubicle every day, but guess what? I do like getting a pay check and buying clothes and shoes and going out to dinner and going on vacation and umm, yeah. So I continue to keep a smile on my face and do my job to the fullest and make sure that all is taken care of so that everyone is happy.

When did it become the norm for the person across the counter to always have a rotten attitude and to do the absolute minimum to get the job done?

I want so bad to give examples of what I'm talking about, as if you all don't know or have your own experiences to share, but I really could write a book on it there are so many. I mean, anywhere from the Post Office to the fucking dumb ass bartenders on Friday night. I just want to know what is so bad about their jobs that they have to take it out on me. Do they even know how many people don't have jobs and would rather enjoy getting their pay check? Oh and let's not even get into the immigration thing. People complain about illegal immigrants "taking over" our country and taking over all of the jobs but guess what, I don't see little white suburban kids or even African American kids for that matter, doing the jobs that they do, with a smile on their faces for that matter! I'm going to stop now because I will go on forever. Grrrrr...it just makes me mad!
